Links and sharing

Paste links into Search, open nuvo:// links, and share songs and playlists without a server.

Search accepts a link. Nuvo reads only http, https and nuvo links and decides what the link is.

You paste Nuvo does
A YouTube or YouTube Music link Shows the song, or a playlist import
A SoundCloud link Shows the track or set
An Apple Music song link Looks the song up, then finds a playable match
A Deezer song link Same
A Yandex Music song link Same
A Shazam link Same
A TikTok video Finds the song by the post’s named sound, then by listening to the clean sound, then to the video
A nuvo:// link Opens the artist, album, playlist or shared list
A Spotify link Tells you to import a file instead

If Nuvo cannot find a song, it says why in plain words. Recognition from audio needs yt-dlp and ffmpeg. See troubleshooting.

Share a song or a playlist

Nuvo has no server, so a share link carries the songs itself:

nuvo://share?id=<payload>

The payload holds the title, and for each song a source tag, the YouTube or SoundCloud id when there is one, names, and duration. It is compressed when that is smaller.

  • A link aims to fit in one chat message: about 1,800 characters.
  • If names for every song do not fit, Nuvo drops the names of songs that have an id. The receiver looks them up.
  • A share holds up to 5,000 tracks. A link longer than the copy limit of 60,000 characters cannot be copied.
  • Decoding is strict. A broken or newer link is refused.

The receiver’s Nuvo rebuilds the list on their machine and matches songs it must.

For people without Nuvo

The share sheet can also copy:

  • A plain list of songs, one per line.
  • An anonymous YouTube list for the first 50 YouTube songs.
  • A link to a single song’s source.

Privacy

Opening a link never sends your library anywhere. Song lookups for Apple Music, Deezer and Yandex Music call the public API of that service for the song’s title and artist.
