Features

Playback

Queue, gapless playback, crossfade, radio, autoplay, and system media controls.

Queue and modes

Double-click a track to play it. The queue shows what is next. You can shuffle and repeat one or all. Settings, Playback holds these choices:

  • Autoplay of similar tracks when the queue ends.
  • Whether a double-click plays the track or adds it to the queue.
  • Whether Nuvo resumes what was playing when it starts.
  • Pause when an output device disconnects.

Gapless and crossfade

Two decks play in turn, so the next track starts exactly when the current one ends. Tracks from the same album, played in order, always keep their exact seam.

Crossfade is optional and runs from 0 to 12 seconds. Nuvo skips the fade and plays gapless when:

  • the next track is not ready in time,
  • the fade would be shorter than one second,
  • the two tracks are neighbours on one album in order,
  • repeat one, an A-B loop or a sleep timer stop is active.

Radio

Start a radio from any track. Nuvo gathers related tracks from YouTube Music and SoundCloud and orders them with your local taste model. See recommendations.

Cached start

Tracks that are in the audio cache start fast. Nuvo prefetches the next track in the background. See audio cache.

System controls

Nuvo publishes the current track, cover and position to the system media session (MPRIS). Media keys and the GNOME top-bar media widget work through it.

If a track will not play

A source can fail. Nuvo then tries another source for the same song, and the player bar says why when it cannot. See troubleshooting.

YouTube account

Signing in to YouTube in Settings, YouTube can prevent blocked streams. It can also show your YouTube playlists in the Library. Signing in is optional.
