Local files

Add a folder

Open Library, then the local files page, and add a folder. Nuvo scans it and keeps watching it.

Formats: MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus (.ogg, .oga, .opus) and WAV.

What Nuvo reads

• Tags: ID3v2, Vorbis comments, MP4 atoms and RIFF INFO. Title, artists, album, album artist, track and disc number, year and genre.
• Covers: embedded art first, then cover, folder, front or album as .jpg, .jpeg or .png in the folder.
• Lyrics: a .lrc file with the same name beside the track.
• Technical details: codec, bitrate, sample rate, bit depth, and whether the file is lossless.

How scans behave

• Nuvo never follows symbolic links inside a music folder, and skips files and folders that start with a dot.
• A folder has at most 100,000 files and 32 levels.
• A rescan with nothing changed reads no files. It only checks size and modification time.
• Nuvo watches folders with inotify. When the system watch limit is reached, it rescans that folder every 15 minutes.
• Scans do not interrupt playback.

Moved and missing files

• A file with the same size and modification time at a new path keeps its track id. Likes and playlists follow it.
• If a drive is unplugged, Nuvo marks the folder missing and keeps the tracks. A liked local track plays its streamed match meanwhile.

Playing local files

Local files play through the same engine as streamed tracks, with gapless playback, crossfade and the equalizer. They mix with streamed tracks in playlists, search and radio.

Your files are never copied into the Nuvo cache.

Save streamed tracks as files

Choose Save as files on a track, playlist or your likes.

• Original keeps the downloaded codec, with tags and cover. Nuvo does not re-encode.
• MP3 re-encodes with ffmpeg. It needs ffmpeg installed.
• One queue handles all saves, and you can cancel it.

Export

M3U8 carries absolute paths for local files. CSV and JSON never carry paths. Exports never include settings, tokens, the recovery data or cache paths. Nuvo JSON imports back exactly. See imports.
